L’ORÉAL THAILAND FAST-TRACKS SUSTAINABILTY AGENDA WITH GARNIER PIONEERING GREEN BEAUTY

L’Oréal Thailand has inaugurated L’Oréal for the Future, its new sustainability pledge for 2030. The company is giving added focus to all aspects of its sustainability program in line with L’Oréal Group’s Sustainability Ambitions. The goal is to offer consumers reliable products with values and sustainability and create beauty of the future.
L’Oréal for the Future has determined a series of ambitious targets to transform L’Oréal’s business and brands consistent with the planet’s capacity to cope, and to fight climate change as defined by the “Science-Based Targets” initiative[1]. The plan also addresses three key environmental issues: biodiversity, sustainable water management and recycling.

Ines Caldeira, CEO of L’Oréal Thailand said, “Last year was a wake-up call for the planet, as well as our physical health. Consumers increasingly look for brands with purpose and commitments to sustainability and the environment. L’Oréal for the Future will transform the way we do business, and reconfigure our value chain at the corporate and brand level. With this, we hope to help lessen our impact on the planet and innovate for a sustainable future, while consumers can choose products that reflect their values. We are also excited that consumers will benefit from high-performance products developed with Green Science which do not compromise quality or safety. It is beauty that respects the planet.”

Garnier Pioneers Green Beauty
Thailand’s leading skincare brand Garnier is the first L’Oréal Thailand brand taking action to implement Green Beauty commitments.
Garnier has already committed to sustainability for many years, by producing more natural formulae with sustainable and fair-trade ingredients. As part of L’Oréal for the Future, the brand has now launched the global Green Beauty initiative, a sustainability commitment focusing on five key areas:

Recycled and Recyclable Packaging
- By 2025, Garnier will aim to use Zero Virgin Plastic in all packaging, saving 37,000 tonnes of plastic every year. All packaging will now be either reusable, recyclable or compostable.
- Garnier Sakura Water-Glow Essence is the first Garnier product in Thailand with packaging made from 100% PRC plastic, which is completely recyclable.
Greener Sciences Formula
- By 2022, all plant-based and renewable ingredients will be sustainably sourced.
- By 2025, every new Garnier product will have a better environmental profile. Garnier will create high-performance formulae more respectful to the environment, with the aid of Green Sciences such as biotechnology.
More renewable energy
- 100% Carbon Neutral industrial sites by 2025, through the use of renewable energy.
More Solidarity Sourcing
- By 2025, Garnier will have empowered 800 communities worldwide with ingredient sourcing, as part of L’Oréal Group’s Solidarity Sourcing program.
Cruelty-Free International Approved
- Garnier has committed to a world free of product animal testing since 1989. All global Garnier products are now officially cruelty-free. Garnier is one of the largest global brands ever approved by Cruelty Free International under its Leaping Bunny program.

All Garnier’s point-of-sales (POS) will now become eco-friendly. As part of this, Garnier will promote plastic recycling by partnering with Watsons to place recycling machines in key Watsons stores. Consumers can drop recyclable plastic packaging of any beauty products or water bottles to redeem a Garnier product at Watsons. The brand will also transform over 500 point of sales to paper shelfs.
Carbon Neutrality Sites & Green Operations
All of L’Oréal’s sites have a global goal to achieve carbon neutrality by improving energy efficiency and using 100% renewable energy by 2025. L’Oréal Thailand’s head office in Bangkok and distribution center in Chachoengsao have both achieved carbon neutrality since July last year, using Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

The distribution center, which opened in 2017, was also L’Oréal Asia’s first LEED-Certified Silver Level distribution center, and it has continually improved its environmental impact ever since.
- Improved logistics systems and conversion to biodiesel for product transportation, reducing transport-generated CO2 emissions by 60%.
- Alternative water sources for toilets, saving 120,000 liters of water per year.
- Reduced plastic usage in packaging, by reusing carton box for filter carton instead of the plastic bubble solution.
- Replaced plastic tapes with paper tapes and re-designed shipper cartons to reduce tape usage by 88%.
- Replaced plastic pallet wrapping with eco-friendly bio-f
- Partnered with e-commerce platforms to implement green parcels starting mid-this year.
